2016 Pride Grand Marshals

Posted June 28, 2016

Monday June 27th, 2016
Each year the Pride London Festival accepts nominations from the community for the Pride Parade Grand Marshal. The position for the annual Parade, this year on July 24th, is a symbolic gesture to recognize the leaders in our community who have furthered, supported and lead the LGBT+ community.
The Pride London Festival is honored to announce that Dr. Greta Bauer and Nicole Nussbaum will be the 2016 Grand Marshals.
The Board of Directors was overwhelmed by the information that came from our community in regards to Greta and Nicole. This press release would only be able to cover a drop in the lake of work done by these two amazing individuals that has brought to light important issues facing not just the LGBT+ community but so many others. Greta is most likely known for her work as researcher as one of the academic leads on the Trans PULSE Project, a decade-long, intensively community-based research project to document social determinants of health for trans people in Ontario. Information that has been used for Government Policy and the Ontario Human Rights Condition. Nicole is known for her advocacy for members of LGBT+ community across Ontario and the Country. Serving as Co-Chair of the Canadian Bar Associations sexual orientation and gender identity conference.
This couple has supported each other since they met, “Nicole and I met in 2006 at a Trans Health Lobby Group Meeting, and have been together since 2007. She is my partner in crime, if you define crime as love, home-life and advocacy.”
When asked about how they felt being selected, “Shocked. Surprised. Perplexed. We do most of our work behind the scenes. The impact our work does is the reward in itself.”
If we were keeping a list of the qualities that this couple has which qualifies them for Grand Marshal humble would be there with courage, hard work, advocacy and so many others. Their appointment as Grand Marshals is s small token for their work to make positive change for the LGBT+ community in London, Ontario, Canada and the world.
Congratulations Greta and Nicole. Thank you for being who you are and a voice for so many others.
