2016 Rainbow Youth Leadership

Posted July 11, 2016

Monday July 11th, 2016
Each year the Pride London Festival accepts nominations from the community for the Rainbow Youth Bursary and this year we are proud to announce the two recipients:
Carlie Thompson and Brandon Christian
The awards will be given out at a ceremony on July 16th, 2016 at the YOU Made It Roof Top Patio. This annual award is being given to two individuals who have been recognized as leaders in their community and have created a positive environment for those around them. It must be noted that this award is not exclusive to the LGBT+ community but created in order recognize leadership and community contribution.
Carlie is a grade 12 student at Parkside Collegiate Institute in St. Thomas where she is an active member of their GSA and has contributed greatly to TVDSB Bully Awareness and Prevention Week. Carlie is a great student but also has taken it upon herself to help others. Starting with a simple gesture of helping feed others. It was a spontaneous act but one we can all learn from with Carlie sharing, “I don’t want people to go without food.”
Brandon is a grade 12 student at Clarke Road Secondary School where he is also active with his GSA and the Sea of Pink Anti-Bullying campaign. Brendan is a hard working student who has been given the Safe School Awards for his contribution. His nominator noted his commitment in that, “he has never missed a GSA meeting.”
The Pride London Festival is proud of Carlie and Brendan’s contribution to our community. With leaders like these each year it is not doubt that London and Area has a bright future. Pride London Festival VP Chad Callander shared, “we are continuously impressed by the work being done by students and with them all the best in their future endeavors. There is no doubt they will go on to accomplish great things.”
