Last night, Irene Mathyssen, MP London-Fanshawe held a Canada 150 celebration where she recognized local individuals who have done incredible work in London. Katu Azzya was one of these amazing people that were recognized.
Katu Azzya, also known as Mz. Affra-Tighty, is a local drag queen who has been putting on charity drag shows for the past 20 years. He has put on shows for charities such as Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Forward House, John Gordon Home, BC People With Aids, The Rainbow Optimist Club of Southwestern Ontario and many more. Raising thousands of dollars to help local charities and providing some amazing entertainment at local bars like Fitzrays and the Fox & the Fiddle, and even Club 181 when it was around.
Her goal is to serve god and the community in a positive way to bring change to the lives that have been challenged. Katu is more than just a drag queen that does charity shows; his heart and soul is devoted to helping the people in the city. From providing newer drag queens a safe space to showcase their talents, or giving them outfits that he can no longer wear, to helping people who are going through hard times within the community any way he can.
“God knows you can't do everything for everyone, but you better not let him catch you do nothing for no one” is something that Katu truly lives by and it shows with all the work he has done.
